In the Yorkshire Dales you will find The Forbidden Cornerwhich is a unique labyrinth of tunnels, chambers, follies and surprises created in a four acre garden in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, and great fun for families as you try to find all the clues within the maze.
The world famous Jorvik Viking Centre is a ‘must-see’ for visitors to the city of York and is one of the most popular visitor attractions in the UK outside London. You can journey through the reconstruction of Viking-Age streets, as they would have been in AD975. There is also the chance to come face to face with a 'Viking'
The Eden Camp museum is housed within the grounds and buildings of an original prisoner of war camp. You can experience the sights, sounds and even smells of life in wartime Britain and on the front line of battle.
The Royal Armouries museum has a vast array of armour, swords and guns with lots of historical stories and background. It is family friendly with falconry shows, horse shows, including real jousting with knights in armour doing combat in the Tiltyard.
No visit to Harrogate is complete without calling in at the local institution that is Betty’s Tea room. You’ll be spoilt for choice with over 300 breads, cakes and chocolates, as well as 50 different teas and coffees.
Beamish Open Air Museum, set in 300 acres of beautiful countryside, tells the story of how the industrial revolution and the coming of the railways impacted the people of North-East England. Period trams and buses help you move between the different museum locations. You can also take a ride on a mine train.
The Angel of the North is Britain’s largest sculpture. If you’re driving along the A1 motorway towards Newcastle, you cannot miss it! Designed by Anthony Gormley, It weighs 200 tons, is 20m high and has an amazing 54m wing span.
