England’s north-west has a wealth of attractions to inspire and excite you.  The region is home to the world’s most famous football team and almost half of the clubs in the Premier league are based in the north-west. As well as being a hotbed for sport, the region is also famous for its music including The Beatles and Oasis. Beautiful countryside is never far away, with the stunning beauty of The Lake District being the jewel in the North-west’s crown.
Add Manchester

Day 1 - Arrive Manchester

Arrive in Manchester, check into your Great British Trips partner hotel and spend the remainder of the day exploring Manchester’s exciting city centre, including the stunning Town Hall and unusual circular Library buildings, plus checking out the city’s fine shopping credentials.  You’ll also enjoy fine dining at one of the many restaurants on offer in this happening city.

Day 2 - Manchester

There’s so much to keep you busy in Manchester, from its free museums, including the extremely child-friendly museum of Science and Industry to the informative Imperial War Museum. If you’re into football then a visit to the Manchester United Museum and Old Trafford stadium is a must, and you can also take a tour of rivals’ Manchester City’s modern stadium or even watch a game. With Art Galleries and Theatres in plentiful supply there’s also much for the arts lovers to get their teeth into here, including the Lowry and Manchester Art Gallery. Night owls will love the endless blend of old and new bars and clubs and the city’s live music scene.
Add Chester

Day 3 Chester

On day 3 you take the train to the Roman city of Chester and after checking into your hotel, you can walk the city walls – including parts dating back to 120AD, while the remainder of the most complete city walls in Britain are medieval. The delightful city centre has a series of half-timbered buildings which give a Tudor style to the shopping area in the Rows.  The city also has a grand cathedral, which is well worth visiting.
Add Liverpool

Day 4-5 Liverpool

After a final wander through Chester, you’ll take the short train ride crossing the Mersey to Liverpool – European City of Culture in 2008. You can spend the afternoon in Liverpool’s UNESCO World Heritage waterfront with numerous listed buildings and find out more about the city’s role in slavery at the Slavery Museum and the Maritime Museum. The award winning Beatles Story experience is a must for all Beatles fans, while modern art lovers will enjoy the Tate Liverpool – the home of modern art in the North.
Add Lancaster

Day 6 Lancaster

After leaving Liverpool in the morning, the next stop is in the small historic city of Lancaster. Made famous by the Pendle Witch Trials - Britain's most famous witch trials, Lancaster Castle is a great afternoon's destination to explore. After Lancaster, you head up to the Lake District to settle in for the evening amongst some of Britain's top scenery.
Add Lake District

Day 7-9 Lake District

You leave the hectic urban life behind you now, as you settle north in the idyllic paradise of England’s Lake District. With small tarns and enormous lakes around every corner, it’s a hiker’s paradise. For those who prefer to appreciate nature the less strenuous way, there are beautiful Lakeland cruises as well as some of the most quaint and idyllic little towns that you will ever find - perfect for that good cup of English tea before trying the local Cumberland sausage in a gorgeous country pub.
