A Mediterranean dream
in North Wales
Portmeirion is a private village created by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis between 1925 and 1973. Inspired by classical, baroque and Mediterranean styles, it’s a bold design experiment that’s also a real place to explore and stay.
Despite its Italianate appearance, Portmeirion is proudly Welsh. Perched on the rugged Dwyryd Estuary near Porthmadog, it’s a cultural icon, famously featured in the 1960s TV series The Prisoner.
Whether you’re wandering its ornamental plazas, staying in a turreted cottage, or enjoying tea with a view, Portmeirion is a magical stop on any North Wales adventure.
